Subaru's latest creation is one for the fans: a new wide-body Impreza WRX that can be expected to deliver more stability during high speed cornering. And it looks tougher, to boot.
The new 2011 Impreza WRX gets extended wheel arches that widen the overall body, appearing very similar to the top-spec STI model, and the front and rear track are increased so as to fill out that new body work.
Subaru Australia has confirmed that the new look Impreza WRX will be coming Down Under, in both sedan and hatch body styles. It will arrive in the last quarter of this year. No powertrain details have been released yet, but power and efficiency gains are likely.
Nick Senior, the Managing Director of Subaru Australia, said the new model will deliver even more street presence than before. "This new look gives the iconic Impreza WRX even greater presence in a package which has already won accolades for its turbocharged Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive ability.
"This design further distinguishes our turbo Impreza variants, including the Impreza WRX STI, from the normally aspirated versions, which we're sure will please the many loyal WRX fans out there."
The new wide-body Impreza WRX will make its public debut at the 2010 New York International auto show on April 1. On top of the extra width, the MY11 Impreza WRX's front and rear ends have also been given a touch-up.
Specifications on the all-wheel drive sports car are yet to be released, but Subaru did confirm that "normally aspirated Impreza versions will retain the current sedan and hatch body design".
