2013 Australasian Safari looms
The 2013 Australasian Safari through Western Australia's mid west kicks off in less than a monthEntrants in this year’s Australasian Safari are working across the globe to prepare their vehicles for the tough 3200-kilometre event due to kick off on September 20.
Safari organisers say the field of 100 4WDs, motorbikes and quads will comprise entrants from the USA, South Africa, Thailand, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Romania and France.
They will be racing over a spectacular course through the West Australian mid-West that begins in Perth and circles back via Carnarvon to the finish at the Geraldton foreshore on September 27.
Among the competitors will be international rally champion Alister McCrae, the Auto team of Amy Lerner and Tricia Reina, plus defending champions Kees Weel (Auto) and Jake Smith (Moto).
The organisers say the field will include “a wide variety of machines with three Dakar SXS vehicles, a sidecar, pro-trucks and retro pre-1985 bikes.”
The event will be preceded by a Safari show at the Wanneroo showgrounds on September 19 in a free family event that provides the opportunity for enthusiasts to get a closer look at the competitors before they blast off into the outback on the following day.
