2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3

Fire-breathing $410,000 Nissan race car to take on Porsche, AMG, Ferrari with updated GT3 challenger

Hot on the heels of the $172,000 2013 Nissan GT-R is the race-only 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, a tyre-frying rear-wheel drive version of the legendary super car that conforms to FIA GT3 regulations.

Based on the 2012 GT-R Nismo GT3 race car, the heavy-hitting motor vehicle features a bevy of upgrades based on data gathered after competing in several 2012 titles (Super GT series, British GT Championship, GT Cup).

Aerodynamic performance has been enhanced via larger front fender louvers and the addition of canards, while the rear wing has been tweaked to deliver improved aero efficiency. Nismo says this has "improved aerodynamic balance between front and rear, and increased downforce, which enhanced overall aerodynamic performance".

The cars ultra-aggressive stance and styling is compounded by its massive size, measuring 4780mm long and 2036mm wide.

On top of a handful of chassis tweaks -- recalibrated brake balance and revised suspension settings to suit the new aero package -- Nismo has spent plenty of time tuning the powertrain, optimising the gear ratios and improving engine durability and performance.

Power for the Nismo GT3 comes from the same 3.8-litre twin turbo V6 (VR38DETT) fitted to the road car, but output is slightly increased over the production model's 404kW and 628Nm to 405kW at 6500rpm and 637Nm of torque at 5000rpm.

“Engine is the biggest contribution to performance enhancement,” reads the Nismo press statement, with new camshaft timing and reinforced engine internals the major changes to the powerplant.

Built to order and priced at around ¥35,000,000 (A$410,000), the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 weighs 1300kg, rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and belches flames on the overrun.

The only problem is the fine print: "This Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 is a racing car. It can not be used on public roads or be registered for such a license."
