Muscle car madness descends on Melbourne featuring Mad Max collectionIf Australian and American muscle cars are your thing, the Gasolene Muscle Car Expo in Melbourne will warrant a closer look, presenting a collection of more than 140 from the 1960s and '70s.
Held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, Victoria, between Friday May 30 and Sunday June 1, one of the highlights will be a special Mad Max collection, featuring memorabilia, actors, stunt men, and vehicles including the Red XA Bat car and Ford Landau.
An 'America vs Australia' muscle car display should be interesting, as will rarities such as a '69 Dodge Charger Daytona and '72 Holden HQ SS Monaro barn find, which even has a bullet hole in the front guard.
Personalities attending the event include Sam Newman from The Footy Show, who is bringing his original 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, and on the Sunday special appearances by car racing legends will take place. This will include drag racing hall of famer Paul Rogers, and race driver Murray Carter, who has had one of Australia's longest racing careers.
Peter Brock's mechanic Ian Tate will be attending, as well as actors and stunt men from the Mad Max movies, including 'Cundalini' and 'Starbuck' actors Paul Johnston and Nic Gazzana.
Enthusiasts will also find dozens of Ford Falcon GTs, Holden Toranas, Oldsmobiles, Dodge Chargers and muscle cars at the event, along with bikes, specialist displays and plenty more besides.
Organised by the team behind the TV show of the same name that screens on the Prime7-owned TV4ME infomercial channel, the Gasolene Muscle Car Expo Director and TV show Producer Michael Curson said muscle car and particularly Mad Max fans will have plenty to ogle.
"This year we are excited to present an exclusive Mad Max collection. We have ten different vehicles on show, coming from the Mad Max Museum in Silverton and private collectors," explained Curson.
"We'll have the first-ever public display of the Mad Max Museum's Red XA Bat Car, the humungous truck and other original and replica cars and bikes from Mad Max 1 and 2," he said.
