Nissan's motorsport arm Nismo will take the wraps off a new, high performance version of the 370Z at the ZDayZ festival in the USA tomorrow, May 17 Australian time.
A single teaser image of the 2015 Nissan 370Z Nismo has been revealed, showing aggressive new styling featuring a contrasting red lower spoiler, the same as the Nismo GT-R, along with new LED driving lights and Nismo badging.
We'll update this page with more details on the new Zed Nismo when they emerge, but if the Nissan GT-R Nismo is anything to go by it's likely to be more than just chassis tweaks.
The Nismo-tuned GT-R saw a 37kW/22Nm increase in output, so there's certainly scope for a mild boost in power for the 370Z.
Garden-variety Nissan 370Z models are priced from $56,930 in Australia and come with 3.7-litre V6 engines that pump out 245kW at 7000rpm and 363Nm at 5200rpm.
The 2014 370Z Nismo which is not available in Australia pumps out 261kW/374Nm, so the new 2015 Zed Nismo could bump that figure even higher.
As well as the changes to the front end design, chassis updates are likely, with changes to suspension and brakes potentially delivering a shaper, more agile and focussed steer.
Nissan used social media to Tweet that "a special global Nismo debut” is imminent, suggesting the modified sports car will be offered globally.
However Nissan Australia is still yet to make a decision on whether to offer Nismo high-performance sub-brand models in this country, as is the case in Japan and the USA.
In late 2013 it was reported that Nissan dealers had solid orders for the GT-R Nismo but the official line remains "no decision has been made yet”.
It is understood that Nissan Australia doesn't want to launch the Nismo operation here half-heartedly, and wants to offer more than a range of vehicles such as the Juke Nismo, 370Z Nismo and GT-R Nismo.
A full range of Nismo accessories is being looked at, and motorsport activities involving track days, driver experiences and V8 Supercars are likely to be part of the Nismo creed.
