The 2017 Renault Clio has landed in Australian showrooms this week, bringing sharper pricing and more equipment to the fold.
Renault Australia has confirmed the baby hatch will start at $15,990 (plus on-road costs) for the entry-level Life manual, $2000 less than before. It will move up to $22,990 (plus on-road costs) for the Intens and GT-Line variants.
Eventually, the range-topping 2017 Clio RS hot hatch will join the local portfolio, with an anticipated mid-year arrival.
Entry-level variants of the Clio score a 900cc turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine developing 66kW and 135Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed manual. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission is tied to the higher-specification 1.2-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, which makes 88kW and 190Nm.
The light nip and tuck also extends to a wider front grille and a redesigned bumper at the rear that’s said to be more robust than the one it replaces.
In terms of spec, the Life model (available currently for $17,990 drive away in manual guise and $19,990 drive away in automatic form) comes equipped with 16-inch wheels (with hubcaps), keyless entry and start, automatic headlights, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, electric windows and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The mid-grade Zen (from $19,990 plus ORCs) adds LED daytime running lights, LED headlights, fog lights, front parking sensors, satellite navigation, gloss black exterior treatment and 16-inch alloy wheels.
Luxury or sportiness is leveraged depending on whether you opt for the Intens variant or GT-Line.
The Intens plays on the luxury theme with chrome window trims, hands-free parking assistant with side parking sensors, a driver’s armrest, LED cabin lighting, 3D Arkamys audio system, upgraded navigation system, height-adjustable passenger seat, artificial leather/velvet upholstery, climate control, rear privacy glass and 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels.
The GT-Line is more in line with sporty attributes, thanks to Renault Sport-inspired highlights for the interior upholstery, aluminium sports pedals, GT-Line badging, a rear spoiler, leather handbrake handle and with 17-inch alloy wheels.
As before, a host of no-cost option personalisation packages are available across the Clio range.
Metallic paint adds $550 to the sticker price, while a panoramic sunroof ($1000), Bose sound system ($500) and heated leather front seats ($1500) are available as optional extras on certain models.
The 2017 Clio range is available from this week.
