2017 Volkswagen Golf pricing announced

New Golf 7.5 upgrade brings more equipment, added entry price

Volkswagen has released pricing and specification details for its new Golf 7.5 range, which lands in showrooms from early July.

Available across hatchback, wagon and Alltrack variants, the Golf 7.5 range is priced from $23,990 (plus on-road costs) for the 110kW/250Nm Golf 110TSI. In effect, Volkswagen has raised the entry price by about $1000 but replaced the lesser-powered 92kW 92TSI with the 110TSI in the process.

The price is applied to six-speed manual variants, with an optional seven-speed DSG transmission adding $2500 (from $26,490 plus on-road costs).

For its entry price the 110TSI includes a decent array of standard tech, including: Front Assist with City Emergency Brake (autonomous emergency braking), eight-inch touchscreen with App Connect, rear-view camera, seven airbags, 16-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights and LED tail lights.

Next in the line-up is the 110TSI Trendline ($24,990 plus ORCs in manual form, $27,490 plus ORCs as an automatic). Automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, 16-inch alloy wheels, front seat lumbar adjustment and rear seat centre armrest are among the extra features.

Meanwhile, the Golf wagon range starts at $28,990 (plus on-road costs) for the 110TSI Trendline wagon, with the same specifications as the Trendline hatch above.

The 110TSI Comfort line hatch is priced from $28,990 (wagon $30,490) and comes standard with the automatic transmission, climate control air-conditioning, 17-inch alloys wheels, upgrade media system, ‘Comfort’ front seats and storage draw under the front seats.

The Golf 7.5 is also available in diesel form: the 110TDI Highline, priced from $36,990 in hatch form or $38,490 as a wagon. A 2.0-litre 110kW/340Nm diesel is found under the bonnet, matched to a seven-speed DSG.

Standard equipment on the 110TDI and the corresponding petrol flagship, the 110TSI, includes: front fog lights, sports seats, leather-appointed upholstery with heated seat function, electric driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment, keyless entry and start, 17-inch alloy wheels, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.

Volkswagen has also announced several optional packages allowing customers to upgrade and personalise their vehicles at an added cost.

Golf Alltrack

The German brand’s quasi-off-roader, the Golf Alltrack, will be priced from $34,990 (plus on-road costs) in the form of a new petrol-powered entry model, the 132TSI.

The entry price includes a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder developing 132kW/280Nm, mated standard to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic sending drive to all four wheels.

Standard highlights include climate control, keyless entry and start, off-road mode, eight-inch touchscreen with App Connect, rear-view camera, 17-inch alloy wheels, front assist with city emergency brake, fog lights, automatic wipers and front and rear parking sensors.

The Alltrack Premium is next in the line, in the form of the petrol-powered 132TSI ($38,490) and 135TDI ($40,990). The former employs the same engine as the entry-model Alltrack, while the latter uses a 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder that makes 135kW and 380Nm, synced with a seven-speed automatic.

Added standard equipment comprises sports seats, leather-appointed upholstery with heated front seats, upgraded media and satellite navigation system, LED headlights with cornering function and carpet floor mats.

Performance range

A Golf line-up wouldn’t be complete with a few hot hatches, and on that front, Volkswagen has announced some big additions in the 7.5 update.

Each are due to land in showrooms from mid-August.

The Golf GTI has had a minor increase in price, now starting at $41,490 (plus on-road costs) in manual form (six-speed DSG adds $2500).

Power comes courtesy of 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol that now makes 169kW and 350Nm, sending drive to the front wheels.

Standard highlights on the GTI include climate control air-conditioning, keyless entry and start, eight-inch touschreen with sat-nav and App Connect, rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors, seven airbags, 18-inch wheels and adaptive chassis control.

As confirmed by motoring.com.au recently, the Golf GTI three-door will also return to Australian showrooms. Just 150 units of the three-door Golf GTI Performance Edition 1 will be available initially.

Each will start from $47,990 (plus on-road costs) and brings a more powerful 180kW/370Nm engine tune, front differential lock and larger disc brakes, 19-inch wheels and added safety equipment.

The Golf R hatchback also returns in six-speed manual form ($52,990) or with a seven-speed DSG automatic ($55,490).

Power is drawn from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol that makes a slightly greater 213kW/380Nm, sending drive to all four wheels.

A larger 9.2-inch toucschreen with sat-nav and App Connect is standard, as is gesture control, voice control, active info display, electric driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment, tinted windows, 19-inch alloy wheels and adaptive chassis control, among other features.

There will also be 300 examples of the Golf R Wolfsburg Edition hatch and wagon available from late August. Pricing is still being finalised on those models.

Volkswagen says the Golf R wagon will return as a permanent fixture to the Australian line-up from 2018.
