The facelifted 2018 Ford Mustang has been leaked via a new promotional video.
Showing off styling updates which are due to reach Australian showrooms from later this year, the 90-second clip has already caused a stir in online forums and comment pages.
The Mustang's headlights have seemingly been pinched and its lower air intake re-designed. Ford has also re-worked the outer edges of the front clip around the vehicle’s LED daytime running lights.
The rear end features small tweaks to the tail lights, but no wholesale change.
There are no shots of the Mustang's interior.
Ford Australia is set to continue with its current two-model Mustang line up, comprising the four-cylinder EcoBoost and flagship V8. Internationally, there are rumours Ford will kill off its entry model V6.
The big revelation under the bonnet is set to come in the form of a 10-speed automatic transmission that has been co-developed with General Motors.
In addition, next year's Ford coupe will come with MagneRide dampers for both the EcoBoost and V8 models. In their firmest setting, they are claimed to improve damper performance to the level of the Shelby GT350.
An all-new sports exhaust will also be an option that introduces quad rear tailpipes.
Ford is also set to offer a new track-oriented handling kit for the Mustang – in the US, at least.
Called the 'Performance Package 2', the handling kit is thought to come with the option of stiffer springs, high-performance dampers and larger brakes.
A 'Carbon Sport pack' is also part of the update, but it's not known if this option will introduce weight-saving body panels or simply offer a carbon finish around the dash.
While the current iteration has been a hit with most 'Stang aficionados, the re-sculpted version has and likely will polarise. Already, numerous outlets have described the facelift in varying forms, from sleepy to a groaning zombie.
Beyond the 2018 facelift, the Mustang is set to receive its biggest overhaul yet, with Ford engineers working on an electric version that will likely grace an all-new model due in 2020.
