SPY PICS: 2018 Jeep Wrangler uncovered

More visual details unearthed in the lead-up to global debut

Fresh details of Jeep’s next-generation Wrangler have been revealed ahead of the iconic off-roader’s anticipated public unveiling.

Jeep is set to show off its JL-generation Wrangler at the LA motor show in November; if not, perhaps sooner. The new iteration is set to include a Wranger-based pick-up called the Scrambler.

Spy photos sent to motoring.com.au this week – obtained during official testing in Michigan - provide an early preview.

Not surprisingly, there are no wholesale styling changes, the 2018 model instead taking cues from the Wrangler lineage, and adopting a slightly more modern bent. Of particular note, and based on these pics, is a fixed windshield and a bit more rake angle in the windscreen (read: it’s not as boxy).

The rear tail lights have been re-worked, while LED running lights have also been integrated into the front fenders.

Under the bonnet, too, the Wrangler will conform with modern tastes thanks to the option of a new 2.0-litre turbo four, called Hurricane, along with a selection of a familiar Penstar V6 – teamed with an eight-speed auto – and a new 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel.

On top of these, a hybrid option is also being mooted, while it is certain Jeep will maintain availability of a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Wrangler is also set to shed some kilos thanks to a new aluminium-intensive design.

Stay tuned for official details of Jeep’s next-gen off-roader in the coming weeks.
