McLaren has given its ‘softest’ models a sportier bent.
The British manufacturer has announced a slew of updates to its Sports Series range in a move designed to align 570S Coupe and GT models with the recently-launched 570S Spider.
The biggest changes have been applied to the 570GT, which now gets carbon-ceramic brakes for the first time. Furthermore, there is also an $13,100 optional ‘Sport Pack’ that adds the sportier steering rack, suspension, damper actuators and uprights from the 570S and 570S Spider, along with more focussed Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.
According to McLaren, the move comes in response to customer demand for greater performance in the body style and comfort of a GT model.
“The changes for 2018 make every model in the [Sport Series] range even more compelling; customers attracted by the McLaren blend of lightweight, carbon-fibre construction and mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged V8 engine combining to deliver thrilling performance, can now choose from an even wider range of colours, materials and features,” said McLaren’s executive marketing director Jolyon Nash.
“Additionally, with the new 570GT Sport Pack, we have reacted to market requests for a 570GT with the driving dynamics of the 570S Coupe. This optional handling package gives the same chassis setup as the Coupé, while retaining the luxurious features, luggage space and looks of the 570GT.”
Also new to the 570GT is a variable-tint electrochromic panoramic roof that allows owners to change the opacity of the car’s UV-filtered glass lens.
New 10-spoke forged alloy wheels, colour schemes and a reversing camera are standard across the Sports Series range while a 12mm taller rear spoiler is now a standard inclusion on coupe models.
The changes coincide with higher pricing with the exception of the 570S Spider, which remains unchanged at $435,750 plus on-road costs.
