The Mercedes-AMG GT will go topless in Spring.
The German manufacturer’s local arm has confirmed pricing and specification of two new Roadster variants due in showrooms from October.
In addition the regular hardtop AMG GT Coupe and GT S Coupe have received power and torque upgrades as part of 2018 model changes.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster and GT C Roadster will be priced from $283,711 (plus on-road costs) and $338,711 (plus on-road costs) respectively. The base model drop-top represents a $25,000 premium over the hardtop sibling on it’s based.
Drawing power from a familiar front mid-engined 4.0-litre V8 linked with a transaxle seven-speed gearbox at the rear, the GT Roadster develops 350kW and 630Nm.
The GT Roadster’s open air design is complemented by protection from the elements in the form of a triple-layer fabric roof that opens and closes in 11 seconds at speeds of up to 50km/h. A ‘draught stop’ wind deflector system, heated seats and 10-speaker Burmester sound system add to the open top luxury.
The higher-spec GT C lifts outputs to 410kW and 680Nm, adding technical features including rear axle steering plus specification highlights including AMG performance seats dressed in Nappa leather, an AMG steering wheel and AIRSCARF neck level heating.

The new drop-top variants coincide with power and torque increases across the GT range.
Due in October, the hardtop GT will now boast 350kW of power (up 10kW) and 630Nm of torque (up 30Nm), while the GT S scores 384kW of power (up 9kW) and 670Nm of torque (up 20Nm).
Pricing has been mildly reduced in the case of both models (roughly $1000), the GT Coupe now priced from $258,711 (plus on-road costs) and the GT S Coupe at $298,711).
Mercedes-AMG has also announced a new GT C Edition 50 Coupe that will likewise arrive from October commemorating the 50th anniversary of AMG.
Powered by the same 410kW/680Nm tune V8 as the GT C Roadster and GT S Coupe, the Edition 50 is priced at $335,211 (plus on-road costs).
“Highlights of the AMG GT C Edition 50 Coupe include AMG Performance seats and steering wheel, the AMG interior Night Package, Edition 50 detailing in the head restraints and steering wheel bezel, quilted nappa leather upholstery, AMG trim elements in black chrome, LED high performance headlamps, black chrome exterior highlights, 19/20-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels and a choice of two ‘designo’ paint colours – graphite grey magno or cashmere white magno,” Mercedes-AMG spruiks in a press release.
Sitting atop the entire range will be the venerable AMG GT R, priced from $348,711 (plus on-road costs).
The 2018 AMG GT range will be available from October.
