SsangYong has pulled the covers off its 2018 Rexton Sports utility.
Following in the wheel tracks of the new Rexton SUV, the South Korean marque has concentrated change aft of the B-pillar, thanks to re-designed rear doors, a revised cabin layout and the installation of a cargo tray. Forward of the B-pillar, it’s business as usual.
Under the bonnet the Rexton Sports features a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine tied to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Though unconfirmed, outputs from the diesel are said to be close to the 133kW of power and 420Nm of torque on offer in the equivalent SUV.
Inside, the Rexton Sports is equipped with an 8.0-inch touch-screen or 9.2-inch touchscreen depending on model.
Other features including Nappa leather, surround camera system, dual zone climate control, keyless entry and start, front and rear parking sensors and heated wipers, while on the safety front the utility boasts blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert.
Right-hand drive versions of the Rexton have been slated for the UK, where it will go on sale as the Musso from late this year.
The Australian status of SsangYong, which is owned by Mahindra, remains unknown at this stage. At last count, stakeholders were intent on re-launching the brand locally following an extended hiatus.
