2018 Volvo XC60: A closer look

Volvo executive takes a closer look at upcoming mid-size SUV in new video

Volvo has detailed its upcoming XC60 SUV in an eight-minute film clip.

The 2018 XC60 is one of the most anticipated models from the Swedish manufacturer, following in the wheel tracks of the XC90 and S90/V90. It will go on sale in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2017, with pricing and specifications yet to be confirmed.

In the clip, Volvo senior product manager Hans Nilsson says the XC90 will be available in three grades – Momentum, R-Design and Inscription.

The XC60 features familiar design flourishes such as the ‘Thor’s hammer’ LED daytime running lights, along with a prominent front grille and wheels ranging from 18 inches to 22 inches in diameter.

Inside, the five-seat cabin features quick-folding seats that can be accessed from the boot. The XC60 will feature similar chairs to those found on the XC90.

A big portrait-style screen takes centre position in the dashboard, surrounded by wooden inlays and premium materials. The screen is matched by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Engine options for the XC60 will include a version of the T8 plug-in hybrid already available on the XC90. As before, the petrol-electric set-up will offer a combined 300kW of power.

Optional air suspension can be teamed with the car’s existing front double wishbone suspension or integral multilink design at the rear.

“The result is very good handling without compromising comfort,” Volvo says.

Volvo says the XC60 will also be an adept city driver thanks to an 11.4-metre turning circle.

At 4690mm, it’s 62mm longer than the outgoing car, while its wheelbase has been stretched by 91mm (to 2865mm), giving it significantly more rear legroom than the outgoing XC60, which was launched in 2008.

Revealed at the Geneva motor show in March, the XC60 is set to continue as Volvo’s best selling vehicle globally.
