2019 Abarth 595 Pista unleashed
Big turbo treatment for pint-sized hot hatch, Pista made to slot in above standard 595 but below the CompetizioneFiat's performance sub-brand, Abarth, has unveiled the new 595 Pista – a faster version of the standard 595 that gets a larger turbocharger.
Sitting above the current 107kW Abarth 595 but below the 132kW Abarth 595 Competizione.
The headline news is the new Pista version gets a larger Garrett compressor and the high-flow Record Monza sports exhaust that's lifted from a Competizione.
The result is, the 595 Pista produces 121kW and 230Nm from its turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder – that's only 11kW and 20Nm less than the full-fat Competizione.
As well as more power and torque, the Pista gets a bespoke Koni rear suspension set up with special Frequency Selective Damping that can trim its reactions to road surface and speed for more stability and comfort.
Finally, the 595 Pista gets new bigger brakes with 284mm discs up front and 240mm rotors at the rear.
The only fly in the ointment for the Pista, that gets matte grey paint and green details for the mirror caps, splitter and wheel centres, is that the Abarth is lumbered with car-maker's five-speed automated manual transmission, instead of the standard car's six-speed.
Against the clock, the 595 Pista hits 100km/h in 7.2 seconds, with a 218km/h.
Inside, the 595 Pista gets sport cloth seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a 7.0-inch digital instrument panel and a 7.0-inch infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It's not yet known if the new Abarth 595 Pista is destined for the Australian market.
