2019 Jaguar F-Type Chequered Flag priced from $140k

Special edition commemorates 70 years of Jaguar history

Jaguar has commemorated 70 years since the original XK 120 was launched by releasing a special edition of the F-Type sports car.

The Jaguar F-Type Chequered Flag will reach Australian showrooms from around April, priced from $139,650 (plus on-road costs) – a circa $30,000 premium on the regular model.

Based on the existing R-Dynamic specification of the F-Type, the Chequered Edition is available in coupe and convertible forms and can be had with a choice of turbo four-cylinder and supercharged six-cylinder drivetrains.

Externally, the Chequered Flag edition stands out with an exterior black design pack, 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels and SVO extended side sills, which imbue the car with a wider stance.

Inside, the Chequered Flag edition continues the racey theme thanks to a Windsor leather interior, embossed sports seats, Ebony suede headliner, a red marker atop the steering wheel, bespoke branding and badging and installation of Jaguar’s new Touch Pro infotainment system – the same as that found on the I-PACE electric SUV – which brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Drivetrains are unchanged, meaning buyers will have a choice of a 221kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four, 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol and 280kW/460Nm 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol.

All engines will send drive to the rear wheels only via an eight-speed automatic transmission, except for the most powerful V6 version, which is available in all-wheel drive.

The Chequered Flag variant underlines a series of enhancements to the standard F-Type range for 2019. This includes standard fitment of a reversing camera and front parking sensors across the range.

For the V8-powered F-Type R, there is a new damper tune designed to improve low speed ride comfort, and a modified rear knuckle and upper control arm for improved capability and system robustness, plus an upgraded rear upper ball joint.

Jaguar Land Rover stakeholders suggest production of the Chequered Edition will commence from January, pointing to a likely April arrival in Australia.
