2019 Mazda CX-9 pricing revealed

More standard equipment coincides with moderate price increases across the range

Price and specification details have been revealed for the 2019 Mazda CX-9, which goes on sale this month.

The popular seven-seat SUV range has been extended to five variants for 2019, with the addition of a new flagship Azami LE derivative.

The Japanese car-maker has extended more standard equipment to entry-level variants too, including the long-awaited introduction of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity on all models, along with head-up display functionality with digital speedo.

Safety is also enhanced with the installation of the full Mazda i-ACTIVSENSE safety suite, which includes Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go Function and autonomous emergency braking (between 4km/h and 80km/h).

The changes have coincided with price increases across the CX-9 range. Mazda’s seven-seater now starts at $44,990 plus on-road costs for the Sport – up $1100 – and extends to the Azami at $60,990 plus ORCs (up $200). All-wheel drive variants add a further $4000.

The Sport receives standard equipment including 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, power mirrors, active driving display (including head-up display), three-zone climate control, black cloth seat trim, 7.0-inch display screen, reversing camera, rear parking sensors, digital radio and push-button start.

The MY19 Mazda CX-9 Touring variant (from $51,390 plus ORCs – up $1100) adds bespoke 18-inch wheels, front fog lights, black leather seat trim, power-adjustable front seats, second row USB ports and centre arm rest, 8.0-inch touch-screen display, keyless entry and front parking sensors.

The mid-level GT (from $59,390 plus ORCs – up $600) adds 20-inch wheels, power-operated tailgate, electric sunroof, black or natural stone leather, enhanced front seat adjustment and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.

The penultimate Azami (from $60,990 plus on-road costs) brings adaptive LED headlights, windscreen de-icer, heated steering wheel, frameless rear view mirror, ventilated front seats, 360-degree bird’s-eye view camera and digital driver’s instrument cluster.

The AWD-only flagship Azami LE ($66,490 plus ORCs) tops the line-up with decorative wood panels, stitched leather steering wheel, Chroma Brown nappa leather, added ambient lighting and unique overhead console design.

All CX-9 variants employ a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine that is unchanged from the predecessor. As such, outputs remain at 170kW and 420Nm, with drive sent exclusively via a six-speed automatic transmission to either the front or all four wheels.

Elsewhere, there are subtle changes to the CX-9’s suspension, with recalibrated springs, dampers and urethane top mounts for the rear shock absorbers. The steering has received small tweaks, too; namely, a revisited attachment point between the outer ball-joint and steering knuckle.

In addition, the car’s noise and vibration levels have been improved, and there are subtle trim updates including installation of a plusher console armrest.

From an ownership perspective, the CX-9 now boasts an improved five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, while servicing intervals are spaced every 12 months and 10,000km – amounting to $1039 in the first three years.
