2019 Nissan Navara N-TREK revealed

Nissan Australia has unveiled the newest addition to its 4WD dual-cab ute Navara range in the form of a new flagship – the Nissan Navara N-TREK.

Driven in Queensland this week and sitting atop the revised 2019 Series 4 Nissan Navara range, the N-TREK model is based on the ST-X variant and adds styling options and extra features to its specification list.

No engineering changes have been made to the dual-cab ute range, which continues to be powered by a 2.3-litre turbocharged diesel engine and available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed automatic transmission.

For a price premium of $3700 over the Navara ST-X, the extra kit comprises a range of black exterior highlights, including black 18-inch alloy wheels, fender flares, sports bar, body side decals, roof rails, front grille and rear bumper. Other unique styling features include an N-TREK tailgate badge and orange accented side steps, lower fascia and door mirror caps.

Inside, there’s a new leather-appointed upholstery and orange stitching is used on the centre console, steering wheel and front door armrest. Heated seats are an addition over the ST-X and the driver’s seat now has power adjustment with a power lumbar.

Nissan Australia managing director Stephen Lester said that delivering a more tailored appearance for the Navara was an important factor for today’s dual-cab buyers.

“A majority of ute buyers are prepared to invest in the look of their vehicle, to get the vehicle they really want,” said Lester.

“Our Black editions have always been popular with buyers. The Navara N-TREK includes a wide variety of Nissan-approved parts and accessories that will set it apart compared to everything else in the range.

In the competitive 4WD dual-cab ute segment, which is dominated by the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, the Nissan Navara is the sixth best-selling vehicle, but sales are down 14.6 per cent year-on-year.

Lester said to carsales recently that he’s expecting the updated Nissan Navara to reverse the sales slide.

In addition to the introduction of the new Nissan Navara N-TREK, the 2019 Series 4 Nissan Navara range has been further updated with a new infotainment system.

Featuring an eight-inch colour touchscreen, satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, the system will be standard fitment in Navara dual-cab utes however the base SL will not be equipped with satellite navigation.

Single cab utes will not receive the infotainment upgrade.

With only a light refresh to the Series 4 Navara, Nissan buyers will need to wait until at least the next series update before driver assistance and safety technology is introduced to the Navara.

Autonomous Emergency Braking was introduced to sister vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class at launch last year details but Nissan says there’s no current plans to introduce the safety technology locally.

The 2019 Series Nissan Navara range is on sale now with the Navara N-TREK priced from $56,450 plus on-road costs.
