BMW’s highly anticipated new M3 has been leaked from the production line.
A solitary image of G80 M3 was revealed on
, providing what appears to be an unfettered glimpse of its rear end.The pic shows off an evolutionary design change for BMW’s flagship medium sedan, headlined by an aggressive rear diffuser that houses two pairs of exhausts, each punctuated by vertical strakes.
The diffuser’s purposeful look is bolstered by black trim that runs along the lower edge of the bumper and follows its contour along the flank. The diffuser has previously been camouflaged in earlier spy photos (pictured).
Elsewhere, the leaked image reveals visibly wider rear fenders than the garden-variety G80 3 Series, along with darker tail lights and a lip spoiler at the edge of the boot lid.
The new M3 will make use of the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six as the new X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition – pointing to outputs of at least 375kW and 600Nm.
There is talk both a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic will be available – the latter turning around a 0-100km/h time of less than 4.0 seconds.
What’s more, the 2020 BMW M3 is tipped to be available in both all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive configurations, the latter sold as a cheaper, stripped-back ‘Pure’ edition.
What remains unknown is the M3 and corresponding M4 Coupe’s reveal dates.
Given the completed look of the leaked example here, stay tuned for something more formal as early as the LA motor show next month or perhaps a standalone BMW event.
The M3 is tipped to land in showrooms some time next year.
