2020 Ford Bronco breaks cover

Tough Ranger-based SUV officially shown tearing it up during testing in California

The 2020 Ford Bronco SUV has been officially revealed testing in heavy disguise in the US ahead of its launch in the second quarter of this year.

The hard-charging Bronco mule, shown here attacking sand dunes and rocky trails in California, looks like an experimental prototype heavily-based on the current Ford Ranger.

That's perhaps no surprise, as the Blue Oval's Jeep Wrangler rival sits on Ford's Australian-engineered T6 ladder frame architecture that also underpins the Ford Everest.

Reports suggest the Bronco will employ Ford’s 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine linked to a 10-speed automatic. There's also the possibility of a 2.7-litre petrol V6 and even an advanced hybrid powertrain.

Not that Australia will ever get the chance to sample any of them. Ford's has already ruled out the Bronco for our market, preferring to concentrate on US sales.
