2020 Ford Mustang GT revealed

Retro colours and black pack headline 2020 update of Ford's hugely popular pony car

The 2020 Ford Mustang GT Fastback and Convertible will be rolling into Aussie showrooms from November 2019, available in four new colours, two of them 'heritage' hues.

Priced from $63,290 for the V8 manual coupe (Fastback), Ford Australia has also added an optional black pack for $1000 on the new 2020 Ford Mustang, while delivering reduced running costs via a new $299 per annum capped-price service program.

Too much eye candy? Grabber Lime colour matched with black pack for Mustang

There's still no sign of the hardcore Shelby GT500 model in Australia, with its mad 566kW supercharged 5.2-litre V8. Aussie customers will have to make do with a 5.0-litre V8 with 339kW/556Nmchanneled to the rear wheels via a choice of 10-speed auto or six-speed manual.

The two new heritage colours for the 2020 Ford Mustang are Grabber Lime and Twister Orange, while the other two new paint jobs are Iconic Silver and Red Hot.

Twister Orange - slap a black pack on it, stat!

Barb Whalen, Ford colour and materials manager, describes Grabber Green as lime green on steroids.

"These bright, vibrant retro colours are trending in design – in home furnishings, sportswear and even appliances," said Whalen.

"Aspirational and confident, they are fun, youthful colours that make a statement of how you want the world to see you and who you want to be. And your car is an extension of that," she said.

Recaro seats give the Mustang cabin a motorsport look and feel

For $1000 the new 2020 Mustang GT Fastback can be pumped up with a black shadow pack that adds the following:

- Unique ten-spoke dark-finish 19-inch alloy wheels
- Black painted roof
- Black bonnet stripes
- Black side stripes
- Black grille Pony badging
- Black 5.0L guard badging

If owners select the optional high-rise rear spoiler, it also gets a dark finish when the black pack is added.

On top of the features added to the Ford Mustang in 2018, include a new wheel options, Recaro seats and a 12.4-inch customisable digital instrument display, the 2020 Mustang brings a new capped-price service program.

The big digital instrument panel has lots of options

According to Ford, owners will pay no more than $299 per 12-month/15,000km service for the first four years.

"The Mustang is an icon, and Australian customers have been asking for more ways to customise and individualise their particular vehicle, so we’re pleased to offer more ways of doing just that," said Ford Australia CEO, Kay Hart.

Mustang goes retro with new colours

"These new offerings help make the 2020 Mustang really stand out, and for the first time, our Ford Service Benefits program, with our Service Price Promise, is part of Mustang ownership, too."

As Ford Australia's most popular passenger car, outselling the Focus small car, Mustang sales are sitting at 2442 units for the first six months of 2019. That number is down 16 per cent on last year's tally of 2920 for the same period.

It's not clear if pricing will change for the 2020 Ford Mustang, the company stating the prices will be announced closer to the vehicle's launch in November 2019.
