Jaguar has unveiled a refreshed F-TYPE coupe and convertible range for 2020.
The British manufacturer’s Porsche 911 rival has been overhauled with a “more assertive” look, new infotainment system and more premium interior fitout – arriving eight years after the first-generation F-TYPE first lobbed.
In Australia, the F-TYPE range has also been heavily consolidated, with only six different variants to be offered for 2020 and the predecessor's entry Core derivatives deleted all together.
As a result of that rationalisation, pricing for the 2020 Jaguar F-TYPE will start at $126,400 (plus on-road costs) for the R-Dynamic four-cylinder grade in Australia – a significant $13,000 jump on the outgoing entry model.
Compared with the previous equivalent R-Dynamic model, the price increase equates to $4200.
As before, three different drivetrains will be available – a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, 3.0-litre supercharged V6 and 5.0-litre supercharged V8 – each mated to a recalibrated eight-speed automatic transmission.
Visually, the car’s frontal treatment has been tweaked to align with other Jaguar models, namely with slimmer LED headlights that feature daytime running lights and sweeping direction indicators, a new clamshell bonnet and new front bumper and larger grille.
There are new rear lights with “an unmistakable LED chicane signature” said to take inspiration from the Jaguar I-PACE, while the re-diffuser, licence plate surround and exhaust tip layouts have all been tweaked.
Inside, the British sports car receives a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, new centre touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus capability for over-the-air software updates.
All Australian F-TYPEs receive as standard: enhanced Meridian Audio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+ digital radio, keyless entry and switchable active exhaust.
The entry-level F-TYPE sports an unchanged 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder with 221kW and 400Nm – bringing a 0-100km/h dash of 5.7 seconds and top speed of 250km/h.
The middling drivetrain is a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol with 280kW and 460Nm.
The flagship 5.0-litre supercharged V8 found in the F-TYPE R has had outputs raised to 423kW and 700Nm (up 18kW and 20Nm respectively), with all-wheel drive grip ensuring a 0-100km/h dash of 3.7 seconds and an electronically-governed top speed of 300km/h.
Jaguar is commemorating the 2020 model with a First Edition coupe based on the V6 R-Dynamic grade. It gains 20-inch wheels, a black roof and performance seats with 12-way electric adjustment and Monogram stitching.
The British-built F-TYPE is available to order now, with Australian deliveries to commence in 2020.
