It already has a name, and now we can reveal other key details on the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, after pictures and specifications of the new model leaked overnight.
The Jeep Gladiator Forum unearthed crucial details of the new model, publishing them well ahead of the car’s official reveal at the LA motor show later this month. The Gladiator, whose name was uncovered only last week, will go on sale in the states in 2019 before a likely 2020 Aussie arrival.
The brace of pics reveal the Gladiator borrows strongly from the new JL Wrangler, the car on which it is based, with familiar headlight and grille design and the same basic profile through to the c-pillar.
The forum’s details suggest things will be largely the same under the sheet metal as well, with the Gladiator set to employ a familiar 3.6-litre V6 engine at the start of its production run, available with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.
From 2020, a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engine with eight-speed automatic will join Jeep’s American Gladiator fleet.
From the c-pillar back, the Gladiator boasts a tray measuring 1.5 metres in length and fitted with tie-down points and a 12-volt outlet. A payload rating of 725kg and braked towing capacity of 3470kg applies to 4x4 variants, the leaked spec sheets reveal.
As with the regular Wrangler, off-roading will be central to the Gladiator’s premise, and as such, it will be available with Command-Trac or Rock-Trac four-wheel drive systems, Dana 44 axles, front and rear diff lockers, a limited-slip differential and electronic sway bar.
Furthermore, the Gladiator is equipped with a 760mm wading depth and can be optioned with 33-inch off-road tyres.
Available in folding soft-top or varying hard-top designs, the Gladiator will be available with a fold-down windscreen and a forward-facing camera purportedly designed to assist with vision off-road.
Inside, it will replicate the JL Wrangler thanks to either a 7.0-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreen with Jeep’s UConnect software, which brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The Gladiator is set to be formally revealed on November 26, where we hope to learn of its finer arrival details in Australia.
