Refreshed Japanese sports car to go on sale early next yearThe Mazda MX-5 has received a minor update for 2020 as the world’s most popular two-seat roadster notches up three decades on Aussie roads.
Unveiled at last month’s 2019 Tokyo motor show, the refreshed Mazda MX-5 takes design cues from Mazda’s ‘next-gen design language’ and is set to hit local showrooms early 2020.
The MY20 Mazda MX-5 will be available with a Polymetal Grey metallic paint option ($495) for the first time, following its debut on the new Mazda3 hatch earlier this year.
The iconic sports car will also get restyled Mazda badging that looks similar to the new Mazda3’s, as well as a new-look key fob.
Burgundy Nappa leather with light grey stitching can now be optioned on top-spec Mazda MX-5 RF GT ‘Black roof’ variants at no extra cost.
The current black or tan roof options remain but have been revised, with added perforations for a “sporty texture and comfort boost”, while GT variants will also get new stainless steel scuff plates on either side.
The Mazda MX-5 remains powered by either a 1.5- or 2.0-litre four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G petrol engine paired with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
Pricing will be released closer to the updated model’s arrival early next year.
