Pricing and specification details have been announced for two sporty new Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan variants, one front-wheel drive and the other all-wheel drive.
The new Mercedes-Benz A 250 sedan duo goes on sale in Australia from March, with the front-wheel drive A 250 priced from $53,000 (plus on-road costs), while its all-wheel drive counterpart adds $6200, at $59,200 (plus on-road costs).
Both models are powered by a 165kW/350NM 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The sporty theme is punctuated by dual chrome exhaust tips.
The entry front-wheel drive version gets 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with sat-nav, digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 225W nine-speaker sound system, digital instrument cluster, climate control, keyless start and wireless phone charging.
Safety equipment comprises autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep and steering assist, high-beam assist, traffic sign recognition and a reversing camera.
Meantime, the $6200 premium for all-wheel drive also adds lowered suspension, perforated front disc brakes, AMG body kit, variable ratio steering, a ‘diamond’ grille insert, rear tinted windows, panoramic sunroof and keyless entry.
In addition, the higher entry price brings comfort sports seat with Dynamica micro-fibre upholstery and contrasting red stitching, flat-bottomed Nappa leather-trimmed steering wheel, stainless steel sports pedals and ambient lighting.
The new A 250 pairing brings the A-Class sedan line-up to five, slotting between the entry-level A180 ($46,200) and A200 ($50,900), and the flagship Mercedes-AMG A35 ($72,500).
As with those aforementioned variants, the A 250 sport duo offers boot space of 420 litres – 50 litres more than the equivalent hatch – plus a boot aperture that measures 950mm in width.
