2020 Mitsubishi Mirage detailed

Mitsi's refreshed baby car available next week, priced from $14,990

Pricing and specifications for the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage have been announced ahead of the upgraded light hatchback’s release next week.

Available in dealerships from next Monday (April 6), the Japanese brand’s smallest model gains a cosmetic facelift, new safety features and a minor price increase.

Every 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage is now $1000 more expensive than before, starting with the entry-level ES variant with five-speed manual, which costs $14,990 plus on-road costs (or $16,490 drive-away).

Priced from $17,490 before on-road costs (or $18,990 drive-away), flagship LS variants gain LED headlights with auto-levelling, LED daytime running lights and LED rear combination lights.

As revealed last November, new design features include Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield front-end styling, as well as larger front and rear bumpers and a painted rear spoiler.

Base-spec Mirages ES variants will now come equipped with safety gear such as forward collision mitigation, hill start assist and a reversing camera, while top-spec LS variants add fog lights and lane departure warning to the list of goodies.

Inside the cabin of every hatch, is a new 7.0-inch touch-screen display with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality, as well as Bluetooth and digital radio. Both models will also get a black fabric interior, with LS models getting grey stitching.

The Mirage LS will come with single-zone climate control (ambient temp display only in ES), a four-speaker audio system, cruise control, tinted windows and 15-inch alloy wheels – along with the aforementioned LED lighting all round.

Every Mirage continues to be powered by the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine used in previous models.

The three-pot petrol engine is good for 57kW of power (at 6000rpm) and 100Nm of torque (at 4000rpm) and comes paired to a CVT automatic or, in ES models, a five-speed manual.

Two metallic colours have also been added to the 2020 range – cool silver and sand yellow – while red planet and cyber blue metallic colours are still available, all as a $740 option. Pearlescent paint options (also $740) include black and wine red, while a standard white paint job is the only no-extra-cost colour.

Other optional extras include black alloy wheels, parking sensors, console and floor illumination, carpet floor mats and front, side and rear air-dams, but pricing on these accessories is yet to be confirmed.

How much does the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage cost?
ES manual – $14,990 ($16,490 drive-away)
ES CVT auto – $16,490 ($17,990 driveaway)
LS CVT auto – $17,490 (18,990 driveaway)
* Prices exclude on-road costs
