Renault has confirmed its upcoming Megane line-up, after the 2020 range was unveiled in Europe this week.
New RS models are still at least 12 months away for Aussie punters, but are set to feature minor styling tweaks, including redesigned front and rear bumpers and new alloy wheels when they arrive.
In addition, all 2020 RS models will be powered by the same 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The 224kW motor will be available paired to either a six-speed manual (420Nm) or a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (400Nm).
Other new features for the RS range include a mechanical valve to modify the exhaust note and RS monitor, which displays live vehicle settings including steering angle, acceleration, braking force and more.
Lesser, non-RS Megane variants sold in Europe will also benefit from some exterior styling and infotainment updates, as well as brighter LED headlights across the range. GT-Line trims will also be replaced with an RS-Line for overseas markets.
Renault has also confirmed a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Megane, which will make use a 1.6-litre petrol engine paired to twin electric motors and a ‘clutchless’ transmission – the same drivetrain that powers the PHEV Captur crossover overseas.
The E-Tech PHEV Megane will produce around 117kW of power and come with an estimated pure electric driving range of 31 miles (49km).
Pricing and local Megane line-up details are yet to be confirmed, however a spokeswoman for Renault Australia has confirmed the new model’s production is due to get underway later this year, with an arrival pegged for early 2021.
The French manufacturer also confirmed it is reviewing the E-Tech PHEV Megane for the Australian market, but is yet to make a decision.
