Mercedes-Benz EQS Hyperscreen previewed

Full-length version of MBUX is huge and claimed to be Benz's most powerful infotainment system yet

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment system that will feature on the upcoming flagship Mercedes-Benz EQS when it launches later this year.

The all-new pure-electric limo is set to be the first model to feature the German car-maker's new infotainment system that stretches the entire width of the dashboard.

Housing the driver's digital instrument cluster, central media screen and climate control settings behind a single curved piece of glass, the pioneering new Hyperscreen also provides the front passenger with his or her very own media system.

Measuring in at a whopping 1410mm (55.5") across the dash, the system uses an OLED display that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen according to the time of day and uses a multifunction interior camera.

There's also a light sensor to ensure it's always clear and easy to read.

Traditional air vents are slotted through the panel on either side.

As well as big, Benz claims the latest iteration of its MBUX system will be fast to use, thanks to its 24GB of RAM – around six times more memory than the average laptop or home computer.

Improving ease of use, the system's most important functions are all accessible from the home screen and can be automatically served up to the driver if the AI (artificial intelligence) thinks you're looking for something.

For example, if you regularly call a mate when driving home from work on a Friday evening, the car learns your habits and will prompt a call at the appropriate time.

The same system remembers your favourite massage setting, your preferred climate control temperature, suspension mode and a whole lot more.

Capable of storing up to seven driver profiles, the AI can distinguish between different users and learn their individual rituals or repeated behaviour, never confusing one person from the other.

More incredible, the on-board camera will recognise who's behind the wheel, without each driver having to key into the infotainment system to access their profile.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS is set to become the most technologically advanced vehicle Mercedes has ever built.

The car-maker has already previewed the battery-powered S-Class alternative's pioneering medical-grade air filtration system that can scrub harmful fine particles, NOx, sulphur dioxide and all unpleasant odours from the air to such an extent it meets the strict requirements of a hospital's operating theatre.

When it launches later this year, the EQS will also debut Mercedes-Benz's all-new dedicated EVA platform that will underpin a new generation of electric passenger cars and SUVs.

Thanks to the new architecture and Mercedes' next-gen battery technology, the EQS will offer a class-leading 700km range.

Created to rival the current Tesla Model S, the upcoming Jaguar XJ and Audi A9 e-tron, the EQS will be as luxurious as the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class, matching the flagship limo for comfort and safety, but combining it with zero-emissions motoring.

The range claim for the EQS matches the concept car, which had dual electric motors generating about 350kW and 760Nm, and was serviced by a circa-100kWh battery pack.

Acceleration from 0-100km/h was rated at 4.5 seconds and top speed at 200km/h.
