The luxurious cabin of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS has been revealed ahead of the pure-electric flagship limousine's official unveiling in the coming weeks.
Claimed to have been created to be a "fusion of digital and analogue", Benz had already previewed that the EQS's incredible full-length Hyperscreen infotainment system that stretches the entire width of the dash.
Late last week, carsales was treated to an in-depth technological deep-dive of Benz's most advanced vehicle yet and can reveal that, as well as the Hyperscreen, a second more conventional cabin configuration will also be offered on cheaper models.
The additional layout blends a separate digital instrument cluster with a small infotainment screen lifted from the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Pictures of a version with the simpler centrally-mounted touch-screen have yet to be released, but its design still stuns as it gives the impression of a floating console on a huge piece of timber.
The Hyperscreen will no doubt be the choice of buyers keen to wow their passengers.
Housing the driver’s digital instrument cluster, central media screen and climate control settings behind a single curved piece of glass, the pioneering new Hyperscreen also provides the front passenger with his or her very own media system.
Measuring in at a whopping 1410mm (55.5?) across the dash, the system uses an OLED display that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen according to the time of day and uses a multifunction interior camera.
There’s also a light sensor to ensure it’s always clear and easy to read.
As well as big, Benz claims the latest iteration of its MBUX system will be fast to use, thanks to its 24GB of RAM – around six times more memory than the average laptop or home computer.
Improving ease of use, the system’s most important functions are all accessible from the home screen and can be automatically served up to the driver if the AI (artificial intelligence) thinks you’re looking for something.
Whatever version you opt for, designers claim the EQS interior will offer the highest levels of quality.
Unlike some of its other pure-electric rivals, like Tesla, instead of offering a sanitised minimalist feel, Mercedes says its limo will offer owners a warm and welcoming atmosphere with different versions to appeal to both the tech-obsessive and the more traditional buyer.
Key to appealing to both groups is a new approach devised by colour and trim design boss Silke Noack, blending classic materials with pioneering design and combining warm and cold colour tones.
It sounds strange but employing a grey shade for the top half of the dash with a warm macchiato base, or a warm brown top with a high-tech grey, really works to give the cabin a contemporary feel.
New trims, patterns and colours and finishes have designed specifically for the EQS provide the big battery-powered sedan with a cabin that makes the recently launched technologically advanced S-Class staid and unadventurous by comparison.
With greater space, thanks to its advanced EVA architecture that packages its batteries low beneath the floor, plus a lack of a conventional combustion engine, buyers are set to be won over by not only its design but the EQS' superior packaging.
Created to rival the current Tesla Model S and the upcoming Audi A9 e-tron, the EQS will be as luxurious as the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class, matching the flagship limo for comfort and safety but combining it with zero-emissions motoring.
The range claim for the EQS matches the concept car, which had dual electric motors generating about 350kW and 760Nm, and was serviced by a circa-100kWh battery pack.
Acceleration from 0-100km/h was rated at 4.5 seconds and top speed at 200km/h.
