The all-new Rolls-Royce Ghost limousine has touched down in Australia, wooing prospective customers in an exclusive showing of the long-wheelbase version that is priced from $740,000 plus on-road costs.
Kept under wraps globally until now, the Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended is positioned $112,000 upstream of the new-generation standard-wheelbase Rolls-Royce Ghost that was unveiled earlier this month and is now confirmed to start here at $628,000 plus ORCs.
Both examples of the British brand’s most affordable sedan yet “most technologically advanced” model ever are now available for order ahead of first customer deliveries in the first quarter of 2021.
Rolls-Royce reps are quick to point out, however, that the final price will be highly dependent on customer specification as each car is bespoke and can be optioned with a host of extras, from custom leather stitching to plush reclining rear seats.
Presented at the marque’s Sydney showroom last week, but embargoed until now in line with the international release, the Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended measures 5716mm in length and 1978mm in width, while the standard wheelbase is 5546mm long and shares the same width.
Both are built on a new aluminium spaceframe platform that underpins the flagship Phantom limo (from $902,000) and Cullinan SUV (from $659,000).
Power for both Ghost variants comes from Rolls-Royce’s 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, sending 420kW of power and 850Nm of torque to all four corners through an eight-speed “satellite-aided” automatic transmission and new all-wheel drive system.
As we’ve previously reported, Rolls-Royce describes the new Ghost as the most technologically advanced model it has ever developed, packing it with state-of-the-art technology in areas such as infotainment and safety systems, autonomous driving, dynamic performance and, of course, cabin comfort and refinement befitting a model of this stature.
Helping achieve this is a newly-developed air suspension system that uses cameras to detect imperfections on the road and adjust the settings ahead of time. In the case of large obstacles, the system will pre-arm the dampers and can even disconnect the anti-roll bar to cushion the blow.
Among other firsts, the second-generation Ghost will debut the brand’s new Illuminated Fascia: an array of 850 stars embedded into the dashboard ahead of the front passenger, creating a constellation.
The Starlight Headliner also carries over from the previous model, but can now be had with a shooting star effect – sending dazzling stars at different points across the ceiling intermittently.
Other available features include electrically opening and closing doors, a head-up display, lambswool floormats, front and rear massage seats, heated passenger surrounds and much, much more.
