New Volkswagen Polo GTI teased

Pint-sized hot hatch set for new look inspired by latest Volkswagen Golf GTI

A design sketch of the 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI has been released, showing new front-end styling for the facelifted hot hatch that will be unveiled in June.

Benefiting from all the recent updates wrought upon the rest of the light hatchback range, the 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI is shown with a full-width LED light bar, redesigned headlights, a slimmer grille opening, larger rear air-dam, four-hexagonal fog lights and new five-spoke alloy rims.

At the rear, there's set to be yet more Mk8 Volkswagen Golf GTI influence, while cabin highlights will include a new GTI steering wheel and switchgear for the climate control system that introduce touch-sensitive sliders in place of buttons.

The Polo's touch-screen, meanwhile, will also offer Volkswagen's latest MiB3 infotainment system.

Under the bonnet, the current 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder carries over. It's thought the 140kW/320Nm output could drop off slightly, with engineers forced to improve efficiency, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Stay tuned, as full details will be revealed in June.
