The 2024 Abarth 500e electric hot hatch will only cost $6300 more than the luxury-focused 2023 Fiat 500e on which it’s based, but the full-time performance EV offering won’t arrive in Australia until next year.
Before then, however, Aussies will have access to the fully-loaded Scorpionissima limited-edition, just 219 examples of which will be available for $60,500 plus on-road costs.
The standard 2023 Abarth 500e Turismo, meantime, will retail for $58,900 plus ORCs, swapping out some of the luxury appointments of the regular Fiat 500e for a strong and more athletic drivetrain outputting 114kW/275Nm.
Abarth claims the package can hit 100km/h in a VW Polo GTI-scaring seven seconds, while the hunkered-down chassis set-up and more aggressive rolling stock provides sharper handling, improved dynamics and more grip.
The single electric motor of the Abarth 500e draws current from a 42kWh battery pack that provides up to 242km of driving from a full charge and DC fast-charging capabilities of up to 85kW, which can be charged from 0-80 per cent in a claimed 35 minutes.
Standard equipment highlights for the Turismo trim include Alcantara upholstery, sports seats with integrated head restraints, 18-inch alloy wheels, a fixed panoramic glass roof, six-speaker JBL audio system, wireless charging pad, full LED lighting, electrified scorpion logos, Abarth Sound Generator, digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment system.
The Scorpionissima will come with all the same features but bundles them into a more striking package exclusively available in ‘Acid Green’ or ‘Poison Blue’ paint colours, with the former contrasted against black Abarth decals and the latter by white ones.
Both colours will be available for the Turismo, along with Antidote White, Venom Black and Adrenaline Red, though the full-timer misses out on the contrasting graphics.
“Combining performance, electric power, style and a new powerful sound, the new Scorpion turns advanced technology into adrenaline, and sustainability into performance,” Abarth Australia said.
“Electric is the perfect technology to enhance the driving experience by bringing better acceleration, greater balance, better handling, more stability, and better road holding.”
Abarth is yet to confirm a specific arrival date for the 500e Turismo, but a local Fiat spokesperson said to expect the vibrant hot hatch “early next year”.
