2023 Audi Activesphere concept teased again

Off-road sports concept could herald EV rival for Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato

Audi has released another teaser image of the 2023 Audi Activesphere concept and confirmed that the off-road-oriented battery-electric performance car will be unveiled on January 26.

The fourth member of the ‘Sphere’ family – alongside the variable-wheelbase Skysphere coupe, the Urbansphere people-mover and Grandsphere limo – the Audi Activesphere looks to be an evolution of the current Audi R8 coupe, with an expansive front screen, low-slung looks, flared wheel-arches and a supercar-inspired rear deck.

Other notable points are a panoramic roof and an interior with plenty of red accents.

The latest image is a darkened overhead picture and joins a frontal shot released back in August, when it was mooted as a replacement for the current Audi TT.

Audi says the Activesphere “combines extraordinary elegance with outstanding off-road performance”, potentially muscling in on territory forged recently by the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato.

Like the other Sphere concepts, the Activesphere is understood to be built using the Volkswagen Group’s latest and most advanced PPE platform.

That points to the company’s most sophisticated autonomous tech and next-gen battery-electric powertrains that should see charging performance up to 270kW and a range of more than 750km with a large 120kWh battery fitted.

More details are expected in the lead up to the Activesphere’s unveiling on Australia Day.
