Chevrolet has launched a new line-up of crate motors in the US for its latest Chevrolet Camaro that includes a wild naturally-aspirated 10.35-litre V8.
Meant for racing, the factory developed COPO (Central Office Production Order) Camaro Big Block engine continues a long tradition that started in 1969 with the first-generation Ford Mustang rival.
Offered alongside a 427 (7.0-litre) V8 and a tuned supercharged 350 (5.7-litre) V8, the latest 632-cubic-inch (10.35-litre) Big Block ZZ632 V8 is claimed to be capable of delivering around 750kW and 1188Nm, fresh from the crate when running on 93-octane ‘pump gas’.
Created chiefly for those who drag race, Chevrolet says its latest COPO Camaro engine is not street-legal, although the previous 572 (9.4-litre) V8 did find its way into some enthusiastic owners’ road cars.
Combined with a three-speed automatic transmission, pricing for the 2023 COPO Camaro turnkey drag racer equipped with the ZZ632 Big Block fitted begins at $US135,900 ($A205,000).
If you’re just interested in the engine alone, GM will sell you the crate motor for around $US30,000 ($A45,000).
