2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N shown officially for the first time

High-performance EV makes a cameo in Hyundai’s latest rolling labs feature

Hyundai has given the world its first official look at the piping-hot new 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N ahead of its global debut and launch next year.

The high-performance battery-electric SUV made a late cameo appearance in Hyundai’s latest video elaborating on the back story of its N Performance rolling labs and how the innovations there translate across to Hyundai N-cars.

The star of the show here is the Hyundai RN22e with its outlandish IONIQ 6-inspired styling and spicy 460kW/740Nm dual-motor battery-electric drivetrain incorporating twin-clutch differentials and N e-Shift system.

The vast majority of the extra N goodies, including 3D-printed parts, are anticipated to feature on the IONIQ 5 that bursts through in the closing seconds of the almost eight-minute video.

Compared to the RN22e and Hyundai N Vision 74 rolling labs, which we see from pretty much every angle, the IONIQ 5 N is only presented head-on and it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that we actually learn very little compared to the previously published spy images.

The exaggerated trapezoidal black mesh intakes and integrated aero features spotted in spy shots in August and November are all present on the car in the latest teaser, the only major difference being the colour and pattern of the camouflage wrap – performance blue instead of the generic prototype white and black.

Besides being our first official look at Hyundai’s inaugural electric N production car, the clip also subtly shows off some of the IONIQ 5 N’s performance capabilities, specifically its acceleration and braking.

We already know the zero-emission SUV will pump out around 460kW/740Nm and come fitted with an enormous high-performance braking package, but it’s cool to see those attributes in action.

The immense outputs catapult the prototype forward at a serious rate of knots before the driver hits the anchors and the nose dives as its approaches the tracking vehicle, giving the audience a face-full what will easily be the most potent and performance-capable Hyundai to date.

We’ll be able to provide you with a taste of what’s to come from the IONIQ 5 N in terms of the driving experience when we drive the RN22e rolling lab on home soil later this month.
