2023 Porsche Cayenne teased

Facelift for Porsche’s Cayenne large SUV to bring overhauled powertrains and new cabin tech

Porsche has released a new teaser image of the incoming 2023 Porsche Cayenne ahead of its official unveiling at the Shanghai motor show this week.

Following an earlier preview of its cabin, Porsche has provided a look at the front-end design of the facelifted Porsche Cayenne, which is more than five years into its third generation and now features new HD-Matrix LED headlights with quad lighting elements within.

Claimed to be twice as bright as the lamps they replace, the new headlights sit above revised bumpers that hint at an evolutionary update of the Cayenne rather than a full-scale redesign, extending its current lifecycle just as the German sports car marque has done with the Porsche Macan (now nine years into its first generation).

At the rear there’s full-width tail-lights with fresh graphics and a tweaked bumper.

Inside, we already know that Porsche will combine a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster with a large 12.3-inch infotainment system and an optional 10.9-inch display ahead of the front passenger.

Other changes include a steering wheel that looks borrowed from the Porsche 911, a new climate-control system, extra USB-C ports, new seat trims and a stopwatch mounted in the middle of the dash.

Under the bonnet the entry-level 3.0-litre V6 turbo now produces 260kW/500Nm (+10kW/50Nm), while the 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo is ditched for the 4.0-litre V8 biturbo that pumps out 350kW/600Nm.

The Turbo S also gets a healthy boost in power to 485kW (+15kW), although torque remains pegged at 850Nm.

The plug-in version gets an updated turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 and a more powerful 346kW electric motor (+6kW). It also bags a bigger 25.9kWh battery (up from 11.8kWh) that should provide for a longer pure-electric range of more than 80km.

That battery now charges quicker at a rate of 11kW, up from 7.2kW.

Other changes include tweaks to the chassis (including new air suspension) and the introduction of a revised rear-steer system.

The braking system has also been overhauled in the hybrids for better brake regen.

Watch out for full details of the 2023 Porsche Cayenne following its unveiling at the Shanghai motor show on April 18.
