2023 Porsche Macan EV previewed

All-new battery-powered SUV to sit on car-maker's latest PPE platform and offer Taycan-beating range

The all-new pure-electric Porsche Macan has been shown testing both on Porsche's Weissach test track and public roads ahead of its 2023 launch.

According to the German car-maker, the second-generation Porsche Macan has been confirmed to sit on the fresh PPE architecture that will also underpin the closely related Audi Q6 e-tron.

Following in the tyre tracks of the Taycan, Porsche says engineers will cover around three million kilometres in development mules around the globe between now and launch, covering hot and cold climates to ensure reliability.

It is crucial that the battery-powered Macan's aerodynamics deliver real-world improvements in range while balancing the need to cool its powertrain in hot weather conditions.

Full details have yet to be revealed, but it's thought the Macan will share the same 800-volt electronic architecture as the Taycan that will ensure 350kW ultra-fast charging.

The Macan EV will also offer a long range that will exceed the Taycan's, suggesting it will cover well beyond 500km between top-ups.

In a dig to some of its rivals that wilt on the track, Porsche also claim the Macan will have "reproducible" high performance.

The official images of the prototypes, meanwhile, reveal the next battery-powered Macan – which will be sold alongside an updated version of the current combustion-powered Porsche small SUV – will benefit from a more slippery front-end design and ultra-slim Taycan-style headlights.

The Macan EV is expected to be offered with a single rear-drive motor and/or a dual-motor version that will provide all-wheel drive.
