Sports version of incoming Fiat 500e EV to be available globally as hatch or cabrio in two model gradesFiat has detailed the global launch line-up for the high-performance 2024 Abarth 500e, which spans two model grades and body styles but only one powertrain.
Revealed in the wake of the sold-out launch-edition ‘Scorpionissima’, the new global Abarth 500e range will be offered as a hatch or cabrio in entry-level 500e or higher-series 500e Turismo grades.
Australian pricing and specs are still to be announced but are expected to be shared in the coming weeks as Fiat Australia inches closer to launching the regular 2023 Fiat 500e La Prima, which starts at a hefty $52,500 plus on-road costs.
Happily, the exterior styling of the permanent Abarth 500e models is close to the Scorpionissima, albeit with smaller 17-inch alloy wheels at the entry level – down an inch from the exclusive 18-inch diamond-cut titanium grey alloys on the special-edition.
The vibrant exterior contrasts with the predominantly black cabin featuring fabric sports seats (with blue and yellow stitching), a 10.25-inch infotainment system, 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and D-shaped steering wheel.
Stepping up to the Turismo adds bigger 18-inch alloys, Alcantara and leather upholstery, heated front seats, Abarth Sound Generator, wireless charging pad and seven-speaker JBL surround-sound system.
Both model grades feature three drive modes – Turismo, Scorpion Street and Scorpion Track – to help tailor the single-motor powertrain to the driving situation at hand.
Turismo is equivalent to ‘Normal’ mode, Scorpion Street maximises performance but pairs it with a one-pedal drive function, and Scorpion Track offers maximum performance without the one-pedal system.
All versions of the Abarth 500e are powered by a 114kW/235Nm electric motor which draws current from a 42kWh lithium-ion battery and yields a claimed 0-100km/h time of less than seven seconds. Driving range is a claimed 265km.
In comparison, the regular Fiat 500e uses an 82kW/220Nm e-motor (also with a 42kWh battery) and can reach 100km/h in 9.0sec. It has an effective driving range of up to 311km.
For now, all versions of the 500e are a step behind the MINI Cooper Electric, the most powerful version of which can churn out 165kW and cover up to 390km.
Five colours will be available on the Abarth 500e globally: Antidote White, Venom Black, Adrenaline Red, Acid Green and Poison Blue.
