AC Cars has launched its new 2024 AC Cobra GT Coupe that that combines a supercharged V8, aluminium chassis and a full carbon-fibre body to produce the fastest iteration of the reborn Cobra thus far.
Claimed to be inspired by the legendary AC 298 Coupe that was built for the 1964 Le Mans 24 Hours, the new AC Cobra-roadster-based hardtop will be powered by a snarling supercharged Ford Coyote 5.0-litre V8 that, in the Clubsport Edition guise, pumps out an incredible 581kW of power.
That’s a whopping 779hp using imperial figures.
Full performance figures have yet to be revealed but the British supercar-maker has announced the production Cobra GT Coupe will have a kerb weight of less than 1450kg, which suggests a sub-3.0 second 0-100km/h sprint should be feasible… if there's enough traction.
Keeping weight to an absolute minimum, the Cobra GT Coupe is built on the Roadster's already lightweight aluminium chassis and the two-seat hardtop version gets a full body made of carbon-fibre.
Once introduced, a pair of less powerful versions will be offered by AC Cars – one with a supercharged V8 that pumps out 537kW (badged Coupe S) and another one that dumps the blower for a naturally-aspirated version of the 5.0-litre V8 and musters 336kW (named the Coupe).
Ensuring all variants can cope with those levels of power, the Cobra GT Coupe shares the roofless AC's front and rear double wishbone suspension that's combined with adjustable dampers.
Upgrades include two-way dampers, a stiffer spring and damper set-up, performance anti-roll bar and a Torsen limited-slip differential.
ABS brakes are standard, as well as huge Brembo-developed brakes that use six-piston front callipers and four-piston callipers at the rear.
All models ride on large 21-inch alloy wheels and come with a 50:50 weight distribution and low centre of gravity, and there’s selectable modes for the steering and powertrain as well.
AC Cars says the order book is now open for the fast AC Cobra GT Coupe with prices starting at £325,000 (A$640,000) plus local taxes.
Just 99 of the most powerful 581kW AC Cobra GT Coupes will be made, with prices to be released later following the its arrival before the end of this year.
