2024 Acura Integra Type S revealed

The 2024 Acura Integra Type S has been revealed, giving the latest version of the iconic nameplate real firepower thanks to sharing its mechanicals with the new 2023 Honda Civic Type R.

Somewhat confusingly, there are now two Integra models available, a more traditional Honda Integra hatchback in China and the US-market fastback that wears the Acura badge of the Japanese car-maker’s upmarket division.

Sadly, neither will be making their way to Australian shores.

In the case of the Type S that’s a particular shame, as it offers the same performance punch as the impressive new Honda Civic Type R in a longer bodyshell that’s so muscular it could pass as the Dodge Charger’s baby brother.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing 239kW at 6500rpm and 420Nm from 2600-4000rpm.

A six-speed manual is the only available gearbox and power is supplied to the front wheels via a limited-slip differential.

To reduce torque steer the front MacPherson strut suspension has a dual axis system, which separates the steering knuckle from the strut, while the rear is a multi-link setup and there are adaptive dampers at all four corners.

Large brakes provide plenty of stopping power, with the fronts having 350mm two-piece discs and four-piston Brembo callipers.

Wheels are 19 x 9.5 inches all around wearing 265/30R19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.

Dimensionally, the Type S mirrors the Civic Type R, sharing its wheelbase, width, height and tracks, though the Integra is 130mm longer and subsequently around 14kg heavier, though at 1437kg it’s not exactly in need of a diet.

Inside, to justify its premium badge and positioning there’s plenty of equipment, including LED lighting, every driver assist gizmo you can think of, a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, head-up display, 9.0-inch infotainment touch-screen with wireless smartphone mirroring, heated electric seats, wireless phone charging and a 16-speaker stereo system.

While limited to the US market, it would be a niche but welcome addition to Honda’s local line-up and one that would find plenty of buyers, if the outrageous demand for the Civic Type R is anything to go by.
