Less than a day after announcing Australian pricing and specs for the rebranded and updated 2023 Audi Q8 e-tron electric SUV line-up that arrives within months, Audi has revealed the facelifted version of the combustion-powered Q8 range that will join the EVs in local showrooms around mid-2024.
Brandishing a new ‘Singleframe’ grille, tweaked bumpers, all-new Matrix LED headlights, optional OLED tail-lights, modernised badging and fresh wheels, the 2023 Audi Q8’s aesthetic has been sharpened to make it “clear at first glance” that this is Audi’s flagship SUV.
The exterior updates are supported by a technology upgrade for the cabin, focussing on the infotainment system that can now run apps from third-party providers like Spotify and Amazon Music without needing to dial up Apple CarPlay or Android auto.
Tweaks have also been made to the driver assistance suite – specifically the surroundings displayed within the digital instrument cluster, which now shows the lane change warning, distance to other road users warning, intersection assist and traffic light information in “stunning full HD quality”.
Rounding out the Q8’s mid-life update is a trio of new metallic paint finishes: Sakhir Gold, Ascari Blue and Chili Red.
No changes have been made to any of the Q8’s mechanicals, which within an Australian context means the familiar array of V6 and V8 powerplants should be carried over with the existing outputs and consumptions, plus the plug-in hybrid system due for release here next quarter.
“Audi is updating the flagship of the Q family with a sleek new design and upgraded technology,” said Audi.
“The revised exterior aesthetic with new front and rear bumpers underscores the strong character of the SUV coupé.
“New wheels, colours, decorative inlays, and seats with contrast stitching highlight the car’s top position among the Q models.”
Underneath, however, facelifted Q8 vehicles remain completely different to their Q8 e-tron sister models, which previously wore only e-tron badges.
European order books for the updated Q8 will open in early October, ahead of first deliveries commencing in the first quarter of 2024, and an Australian release around mid-2024. The updated and renamed Q8 e-tron range arrives here before then, in late 2023.
