2024 BMW i4 and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe facelifted
BMW’s four-door coupe gets mild makeover including high-output laser lights, new wheels and interior tweaksThe 2024 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and its all-electric fastback sedan sibling, the 2024 BMW i4, have both been updated with styling tweaks, new tech and minor tweaks to keep the Audi A5 and Tesla Model 3 rivals relevant in the coming years.
On sale in Europe from this July, the updated BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and BMW i4 get a tweaked nose that includes a new matte-chrome trim (black-gloss will be an option), fresh vertical air intakes and a new daytime running light signature.
At the rear there’s a new diffuser within a revised bumper, plus bigger 100mm exhaust outlets (up from 90mm) for the 4 Series Gran Coupe.
And for the first time there are rear laser lights from the hard-core M4 CSL, plus the option of an M Sport Pro and M Carbon exterior option pack for extra sportiness.
Completing the updated exterior ensemble are new paint and wheel options for the revised 4 Series line-up.
Inside, both mid-size luxury models get the BMW’s latest Curved Display multimedia system with the latest OS 8.5, which now offers a new Augmented View for the navigation.
There’s also a newly-designed steering wheel with gearshift paddles, plus a broader choices of trim and seat fabrics that are said to increase the feeling of quality.
Powertrains for both models are carried over unchanged, which means the BMW i4 eDrive35 keeps its single 210kW/400Nm motor, while the flagship dual-motor all-wheel drive i4 M50 xDrive pumps out 400kW/795Nm.
The least powerful BMW 4 Series, meantime, retains its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder but gets 48-volt mild-hybrid power for better fuel efficiency.
The engine also gets revised intake ports and combustion chambers, plus new camshaft controllers, fresh injection and ignition systems and new exhaust gas routing.
Despite all that, power remains the same – 135kW (420i) or 180kW (430i) – while the M440i xDrive carries over its 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that pumps out 275kW/500Nm.
Thanks to its mild-hybrid tech there’s now an additional performance boost of 8kW/200Nm for up to 10 seconds.
With production of the new model commencing mid-year, the revised BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and BMW i4 should be in Australian showrooms before the end of this year.
