The 2024 Chery Omoda 5 GT has been dropped from Chery Australia’s small SUV line-up despite only being introduced at the beginning of the year.
Confirming both the GT and GT AWD variants would be withdrawn for our market, Chery Australia hasn’t confirmed how many examples remain in dealers but insists the fastest Omoda 5 was always planned to be a limited-run model, with production ending in the middle of this year.
Whereas the standard Omoda 5 packs a 108kW/210Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a CVT, the GT upped the ante with a punchier 1.6-litre mill and a snappier seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Power and torque are pegged at 137kW and 275Nm respectively, putting the top flight Omoda 5 at the pointy end of the segment.
To help the chassis cope with the extra might, the GTs came with a more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension set-up instead of the standard car’s torsion beam as well as significantly bigger brakes.
To help clear the deck of all remaining Omoda 5 GTs, dealers are offering buyers a $3000 discount on the drive-away prices of both versions, with the ‘end of year bonus’ also applying to the lesser Omoda 5 BX and EX.
