The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray has been leaked online via the official Corvette configurator six months before its official North American release.
General Motors has predictably taken down the page in the wake of the news breaking online, but wasn’t quick enough to stop Corvette fans and forum members from snagging screenshots and spreading the word.
Posted to midenginecorvetteforum.com late last week, the discovery was made by user KK87 who went onto post myriad screenshots of the different colours, option packs and even the interior of the upcoming Corvette hybrid.
This is the first time we’ve seen the E-Ray undisguised – even if the configurator does present renders – which in turn reveals the fitment of Z06-style wide-body panels and some aero features, as well as some variant-specific vent designs and colouring.
Other unique features include the blue and white E-Ray motif seen on the steering wheel as well as the header of the now-removed landing page.
Corvette community members were quick to point out the E-Ray’s pictured redline is the same as the Stingray’s, suggesting the two will share the same 6.2-litre V8 heart.
The E-Ray’s big bent-eight, however, will be supported by at least one electric motor – driving the front wheels – and therefore it should be more powerful than the charismatic range-opener.
Expectations are that in terms of outputs the E-Ray hybrid will split the existing Stingray (369kW/637Nm) and the upcoming Z06, the 5.5-litre flatplane-cranked V8 in which is claimed to be the world’s most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 with 500kW/623Nm.
That would go a long way in justifying the E-Ray’s subtly more aggressive body, but as with previous spy images, a dedicated charging port cover is conspicuously absent and reinforces previous suspicions of the E-Ray being a series or plugless hybrid as opposed to a plug-in hybrid.
Either way it’s anticipated to be the first all-wheel drive Corvette and serve as the precursor to the rip-snorting ZR1 flagship due in a few years, also with a hybrid system.
Meantime, the configurator also previewed a ‘ZER Performance Pack’ consisting at least of some higher-end Michelin tyres and a lightweight wheel combination, plus a dedicated regenerative braking mode, optional carbon-ceramic brakes, a bunch of new colours, cosmetic packs and 10 different interior colourways.
We don’t yet know if or when the Corvette E-Ray will make it to Australia, but the configurator suggests the high-performance hybrid supercar will be released in North America mid-next year, with some features already being touted as being in short supply or unavailable.
