2024 Ford E-Transit Courier revealed

Ford’s new Transit Courier compact van will be offered with electric, petrol and diesel powertrains

Ford Pro has unveiled its 2024 Ford E-Transit Courier, the latest member of the Blue Oval brand’s European-bred Transit van family that promises ultra-low running costs.

The battery-electric Courier compact van joins the full-size 2023 Ford E-Transit that launches in Australia this month and the mid-size Ford E-Transit Custom that’s locked in for launch Down Under though unlikely to be available here until 2024.

There’s no word yet on whether the second-generation Transit Courier will be offered in Australia, where compact vans are not big sellers and the segment is now populated only by the Peugeot Partner, Renault Kangoo and Volkswagen Caddy.

A rival for the Renault Kangoo E-Tech that’s heading this way, the E-Transit Courier uses a single electric motor that produces 100kW and 290Nm of torque.

No details have been released on the battery, but Ford says it can only be charged at up to 100kW, adding 87km of range in 10 minutes. A 10-80 per cent top-up takes 35 minutes.

Using an 11kW AC charger, a full replenish of the battery takes less than six hours.

As well as the battery-electric powertrain, the redesigned Ford Transit Courier will first launch with traditional petrol and diesel engines in Europe and the UK later this year.

These include a 74W 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol and a more efficient 91kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel.

For the second-generation Transit Courier, the entry-level delivery van remains based on the previous model’s Ford Global B-Car platform, while the E-Transit – which is readily identified by its unique headlight signature, grille and interlinked light bar – uses the slightly newer B2E architecture found under the Puma SUV.

Modified heavily to support the all-electric powertrain, the E-Transit Courier is believed to have been developed alongside the incoming battery-powered Puma.

Compared to the previous model, the new-generation Transit Courier’s load bay length grows by 182mm and is some 200mm wider, while height increases by 9mm.

In total, Ford says the new model offers 2.9 square metres of cargo space – 26 per cent more than before.

If you choose the E-Transit Courier, you also get a useful 44-litre frunk and a 700kg payload – 22kg more than the petrol and diesel.

Ford Pro gives EV buyers the option to extend this further to 845kg, while the electric version can also tow up to 750kg.

Inside, the E-Transit Courier features a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 12-inch infotainment system, the latter running Ford’s latest SYNC4 operating system that provides for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Lurking on the options list are advanced driver safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot warning and reverse brake assist.
