Ford has confirmed that its flagship 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R will receive a power bump that will see the Blue Oval brand’s high-performance pick-up overtake the RAM 1500 TRX to become the most powerful combustion-powered series-production ute on sale in the US.
Thanks to a revised cold air intake and some ECU tweaks, the Ford F-150 Raptor R now produces an additional 15kW from its supercharged 5.2-litre V8, with total power and torque now 537kW and 868Nm respectively.
That means the Raptor R finally overshadows the 523kW RAM 1500 TRX that has led the fast pick-up arms race, although the RAM’s supercharged 6.4-litre HEMI V8 still produces more torque (881Nm).
As well as turning up the wick, Ford says the F-150 Raptor R’s torque curve has been widened for sharper responses and even quicker overtaking.
As part of the MY2024 updates, the Raptor R also gets a bonnet that sports a more prominent power dome, huge 37-inch all-terrain tyres, a set of new Fox Dual Live valve dampers, long-travel 24-inch coil springs and a redesigned front bumper.
Elsewhere, the F-150 Raptor R benefits from the F-Series’ mid-life improvements that include tweaked headlights, Ford’s new Pro Access Tailgate (incorporating a swinging element), a new 12-inch digital instrument cluster and 12-inch infotainment touch-screen that runs Ford’s SYNC4 operating system.
For the first time, the F-150 range also gets the option of a head-up display, plus the added bonus of a rear step to help aid access to the tray.
Fresh tech includes the subscription-based BlueCruise 1.2 service, which adds autonomous lane changes and improved lane keeping to the cruise control. There’s also Ford Stolen Vehicle protection that automatically alerts the driver and police following a break-in or theft.
The F-150 Raptor and F-150 Raptor R are under consideration by Ford Australia for local right-hand drive conversion. The battery-electric F-150 Lightning is also a potential candidate for sale Down Under.
In the US, the more powerful Ford F-150 Raptor R has gone on sale priced from $US111,550 ($A165,000).
