The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally has made its world debut sans camouflage and featuring a ‘tuned version’ of the dual-motor Mach-E GT’s powertrain good for 358kW/880Nm.
Those figures make the Rally the most powerful and torquiest variant of the upcoming Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV to date, as well as the first Ford ever to feature a ‘RallySport’ drive mode.
The new mode works in tandem with the raised (+20mm) and retuned suspension, Michelin CrossClimate2 tyres and beefier Brembo braking package to enhance the Mach-E’s prowess on loose and broken surfaces, allowing it to slide further and with a more linear throttle response while handling the lumps and bumps.
The Rally is distinguished by its Focus RS-style rear wing, white 19-inch alloy wheels, unique body trim, front splitter, black roof, racing stripes and unique front fascia with rally-inspired fog lights.
Gloss-white accents adorn the interior, which is headlined by embossed Ford-designed performance seats.
The angry powertrain draws current from the same 91kWh battery pack as the regular GT and while Ford is yet to announce an official cruising range, you can safely expect it to be lower than the road-going flagship on account of its extra grunt, weight and more off-road-friendly tyres.
“Mustang Mach-E Rally puts Ford’s decades of passion for rally championships around the world right in the hands of our customers,” Ford chief executive officer Jim Farley said.
“It takes Mustang where it hasn’t been before – to gravel and dirt roads.
“Inspired by true driving enthusiasts, a driving experience like never before for the pure joy of driving.”
Australian driving enthusiasts will have to wait a while to sample this newfound driving experience because Ford Australia says it doesn’t have any plans to launch the Mach-E Rally in our market just yet, instead declaring its focus is on launching the regular Select, Premium and GT variants of the Mustang Mach-E next month.
If and when the Rally does eventually become available Down Under, chances are it’ll be offered here in Grabber Blue, Shadow Black, Eruption Green, Grabber Yellow, Star White or Glacier Gray – as per other markets – and carry a heft price premium over the $108,990 GT.
