The latest Shelby Super Snake, based on the S650-series 2024 Ford Mustang sports car, has been revealed in Florida, packing a 620kW supercharged punch from its uprated 5.0-litre V8.
Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but Australian enthusiasts will have a chance to secure the ultimate ’Stang courtesy of Melbourne Shelby distributors Mustang Motorsport – though annual build numbers will be limited and the price tag will push well beyond $200,000 by the time the S650 Ford Mustang GT donor car is accounted for.
The sizeable outlay does secure one monster of a muscle car, however. A 3.0-litre Whipple supercharger extracts 619kW from the 5.0-litre V8, while cooling system upgrades, a Borla exhaust and performance drive shafts provide peace of mind, along with a one-piece propshaft and short-throw shifter for manual variants.
ADR compliance will be provided for local cars and each will be covered by a three-year/60,000km driveline warranty.
Handling is improved with new suspension, much wider (305/30 all ’round) Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres on 20-inch magnesium wheels, and larger brake rotors.
Ratcheting up the aggression externally is a new aluminium bonnet, carbon-fibre front guards, wide-body front-end and carbon-fibre wing and diffuser at the rear, while convertible variants get a ducktail spoiler.
Inside, there are plenty of Shelby badges and logos as well as cobra puddle lamps and a light bar for the convertible, otherwise it’s standard Mustang GT.
Production of the Australian Shelby Super Snake is expected to begin late this year, once the first S650 Ford Mustang customer cars arrive.
