Owners of the 2024 Ford Transit Custom Trend are being issued with an unofficial recall by Ford Australia following a recent pause in customer deliveries due to a software issue with the power steering control module.
Details of the fault remain scarce, but Ford says shipments and deliveries of the mid-size commercial van have now resumed, and that pre-existing owners will be asked to present their vehicles for a free repair.
“Ford Australia issued a stop-ship notice for the new Ford Transit Custom, which has now been lifted, in order to rectify a software issue with the power steering control module,” a company spokesperson told carsales.
“Around 50 vehicles were sold prior to the stop-ship being submitted, and these customers will be contacted by their dealer to have rectification work completed.”
The stop-delivery order was lifted last week, but some dealers have allegedly told would-be and patiently waiting customers there is a ‘do not deliver’ order on the Transit Custom Trend and that there’s no concrete timeline for when deliveries will recommence.
Ford Australia stressed to carsales there is no risk or danger associated with the fault – hence the lack of an official nationwide product safety recall – and it’s understood the repair is a simple software update of the power steering control module.
Deliveries of the new-generation Transit Custom started earlier this year with Trend variants, which will be followed next month by deliveries of the flashier Sport SWB Van and Sport LWB Double Cab.
All Transit Customs are powered by the same 125kW/390Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
