GWM Australia has introduced price cuts of up to $2000 on the 2024 GWM Ora Extended Range as the Chinese brand attempts to pinch sales from both the BYD Dolphin and MG4.
The mid-spec GWM Ora Extended Range now costs just $36,990 drive-away, with GWM claiming that it is the most affordable EV in Australia with a driving range of more than 400km.
The new cut now means the Ora Extended Range costs just $1000 more than the Ora Standard Range which remains Australia's cheapest EV outright at $35,990 drive-away.
It's thought by closing the cost gap it will convince more buyers to pay extra for the Ora Extended Range that can cover up to 420km thanks to its larger 63kWh battery, compared to the 310km range of the base model that makes do with a 48kWh power pack.
At the top of Ora tree, the 2024 GWM Ora GT is also now more tempting following the brand slashing $1000 off its price to $43,990 driveaway.
The Ora GT shares the same 63kWh lithium-ion battery as the Extended Range with all versions coming with the same 126kW/250Nm single e-motor that drives the front wheels.
Whichever version you choose, standard equipment levels remain high with the base model coming with 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control.
Also standard are rear cross traffic alert, forward and rear collision warnings, lane centring, lane keeping, lane change assists and lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist and drowsy driver detection, with the GWM Ora already receiving the maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Choose the GT version and you get a sportier set of 18-inch wheels, GT-specific bumpers and grille, plus red brake calipers, a panoramic sunroof, a handsfree electric tailgate and massaging front seats with heating and ventilation.
All GWM Oras come with a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, eight-year battery warranty, five years of roadside assistance and five years of capped-price servicing and are available from 103 GWM dealers nationwide.
Behind the scenes it's hoped that the revised pricing will boost sales of the Ora that has only seen 675 deliveries in the first seven months of this year, compared to the 1913 BYD Dolphin sales and 3078 sales of the MG4.
