2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Line inbound

New N Line version confirmed as part of facelifted mid-size electric SUV range bringing upgraded battery, suspension, tech and more

The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 range will upgraded again by mid-2024, when the mid-size electric SUV range will bring a bigger battery pack and a new look – and a new premium N Line variant.

It brings a sporty new look and feel to the updated 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 portfolio, but without the new IONIQ N flagship’s stratospheric performance – or $111,000 price.

The garden-variety Hyundai IONIQ 5 range spans five variants, starting with the two wheel-drive IONIQ 5 ($65,000 plus on-road costs) and topping out at with the Epiq all-wheel drive ($84,000 plus ORCs) – see below.

The new IONIQ N Line is set to arrive Down Under “around the middle of this year” as part of an upgraded IONIQ 5 line-up, pricing for which is yet to be confirmed.

However, it’s almost certain that price rises across the MY24 IONIQ 5 line-up will be implemented due to equipment and battery upgrades.

The headline news is the IONIQ 5’s battery pack grows from 77.4kWh to 84kWh, which Hyundai says increases its all-electric range – but by how much is not yet known.

This increased battery density will apply to the new IONIQ 5 N Line as well, which is pitched as a “sporty variant” that will be positioned between the upgraded mainstream grades and the high-performance IONIQ 5 N.

New-look 20-inch alloy wheels and resculpted front and rear body work are designed to add a bit more street cred, including new bumpers and side skirts.

The interior of the IONIQ 5 N Line benefits from dedicated sport seats with N logos, an upgraded N Line steering wheel, new dashboard design, exclusive N Line metallic pedals, red contrast stitching and black headlining material.

Regular versions of the IONIQ 5 get modestly updated exterior visuals including new-look front and rear bumpers that extend the vehicle’s length by 20mm to 4655mm. Its 1890mm width, 1605mm height and big 3000mm wheelbase remain the same.

The retro-inspired dot matrix-inspired pixel LED headlights and tail-lights remain but a sportier roof spoiler, extended by 50mm, is part of the package and is claimed to improve aerodynamics – as are new-look alloy wheels.

Inside, the updated 2024 Hyundai IONIQ N features a handful of new controls on the central ‘island’ area between the driver and front passenger, while the smartphone wireless charge pad has been moved to a higher, easier-to-reach location.

A new steering wheel with interactive pixel lights is part of the update, while the heating and cooling controls have been finessed to improve functionality.

Wireless over-the-air (OTA) software updates will be available for the ‘next-gen’ infotainment system, dubbed connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC).

Ride and handling are also expected to change, given the new IONIQ 5 gets different shock absorbers designed to “alleviate vibrations from the road” and deliver a smoother driving experience. Hyundai has also reinforced the steering rack to reduce vibrations from the steering wheel, and stiffened the car’s body and rear sub-frame, which is claimed to enhance stability and agility.

Extra sound insulation is supposed to reduce noise entering the cabin from the wheel wells and safety systems have been augmented with updates to its lane keep assist, forward/side/reverse parking collision-avoidance assist and remote smart parking assist systems.

Hands-on detection sensors in the steering wheel have been added as well.

Hyundai says a number of new features have been added following customer feedback, including a Tesla-like digital key, remote second-row seat folding, intelligent front-lighting system and a built-in dash cam.

The new 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 range – including the IONIQ N Line – launch in Korea this month and is scheduled to arrive in Aussie showrooms by mid-2024.

Stay tuned for full pricing, specifications and hands-on reviews of the updated EVs in the coming months.
